Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy Selects LegalServer to Modernize Case Management and Strengthen Client Service

The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA), the state’s public defender agency, has partnered with LegalServer to enhance its case management capabilities and support its mission of providing high-quality, client-centered legal representation to indigent individuals across the Commonwealth.

DPA delivers legal services to people of all ages who are accused of crimes or face a deprivation of liberty. With 36 trial offices serving all 120 Kentucky counties, the agency relies on a dedicated workforce of approximately 900 professionals, including more than 670 staff members and over 200 external contractors.

In addition to its trial division, DPA operates specialized units including Conflict and Contract Services, Post-Conviction, Appeals, and Juvenile Post-Disposition, ensuring comprehensive representation throughout every stage of the legal process.

Managing more than 130,000 trial and post-trial cases annually requires technology that can keep pace with the demands of modern public defense. DPA sought a case management platform built specifically for legal aid and public defense organizations—one that offers robust functionality, actionable data insights, and responsive support.

We are delighted to be partnering with LegalServer. It is reassuring to have a system we know will be fully supported and evolve with us.

Beyond improving day-to-day operational efficiency, LegalServer will help DPA leverage data more effectively, enabling all users of the system to make informed decisions faster and better serve clients throughout the state.

Compared to what we were using before, it is much easier for the staff to find information and run reports in LegalServer.
