Legal Aid of West Virginia Uses Technology to Its Advantage

Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is a statewide non-profit organization with 12 offices providing free legal services and advocacy across 55 counties in the Mountain State.

To ensure equal justice remained available to all West Virginians, LAWV sought to modernize their technological approach to case management. The organization searched for a system that:

  • Was cloud based,
  • Could be continually configured to match evolving requirements,
  • Included an advanced reporting module to provide insights to management on day-to-day activity, and
  • Would provide funders regular feedback on LAWV’s impact across the state.

LAWV checked all these boxes with LegalServer.

Consulting with LegalServer staff to help us analyze our previous CMS data and then going through the structured onboarding process made the transition smooth and deliberate.

Along the way, LegalServer staff assisted LAWV in migrating hundreds of fields from their old system, and properly configured thousands of new fields to LAWV’s workflows. “Changing case management systems was a daunting task,” says Chris Martin, I.T. Director at LAWV, but “Our staff have taken LegalServer as their own and are learning to use it well.”

Now, LAWV staff can access the system from anywhere, and administrators can update workflows as needed. Plus, management and funders are better informed about the organization’s impact - which runs the gamut from courts & hearings to disaster relief, health, and education.
